कथन
Sir, today, the Department of Posts has close to four and a half lakh employees, and this is the third-largest employing department after Defence and Railways. The two primary fundamentals of employment in the Department of Posts are staying in rural villages and working four to a maximum of five hours. The GDS employment was created to provide rural basic services at an affordable cost. The people who are working there are expected to have another means of livelihood. So, these are the fundamental aspects why we created GDS. Secondly, when it comes to their compensation, minimum for four hours of work, a newly joining person would be getting around Rs. 18,600, and an 18.03.2026 86 experienced person would be getting a maximum of up to Rs. 56,000 per month. In addition to this, there is an annual 3 per cent base salary increase, DA increase every six months, and there is a beautiful incentive structure. This is the only Government job which gives the job security, but has an incentive structure like a private job. On an average, if somebody works at even a decent level, they will be able to get at least Rs. 10,000 per month as incentive. So, their salary protection is well documented. In 2018, the Kamlesh Chandra Committee looked into all the GDS issues and proposed several measures, including health insurance, etc. In that, there is a Service Discharge Benefit Scheme, where the contribution of the employee as well as the department will be paid by both the parties.
